Will Insurance Pay For Psychotherapy?

The short is answer is, yes. However, how much they pay varies depending on your insurance company and your specific plan.

It's important to know that I work on a fee-for-service basis, meaning I will bill you directly at the time of service. You may then choose to seek reimbursement from your insurance company if out-of-network benefits are provided under your plan.

I will provide you with a specialized monthly statement with all the necessary information to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. If you want to be reimbursed by your insurance for my services, I strongly encourage you to contact them before you schedule an appointment with me so that you fully understand your out-of-network benefits.

It's also important to keep in mind that in order for your insurance to reimburse you for the cost of therapy, I may be required to diagnose you with a mental disorder. You and I can discuss this more at your first session.

Important questions to ask your insurance provider:

  • Does my health insurance plan include mental health benefits?
  • If so, what is the coverage for an out-of-network provider?
  • Specifically, what is my deductible and have I met it yet?
  • Where do I obtain the appropriate form to submit a claim to my insurance for reimbursement?
